The beautiful and curvaceous America
Ferrera - who plays Betty on the hit ABC
show Ugly Betty, has spoken out about the
stick-thin Hollywood weight trend. She claims
to be happy with her current weight and has
no plans to whittle herself down to anorexic
proportions.
But does she care about her weight at all?
Definitely. According to an interview she gave
to W Magazine, America is like many other
women: she gains a few, she loses a few, she
diets, and she works out.
America Ferrera, lead actress on the comedy
drama Ugly Betty, remains to be contented
with herself. Despite her noticeable weight
loss, she asserts that she will never be a
slave of the eating disorder that has become
a Hollywood trend.
“There are times when I go to the gym and
really try, and there are times when I just don’
t…I gain a pound. I lose a pound. But I think I’
ve developed a really good sense of when I’m
doing something for myself as opposed to
when I’m doing something because of other
people’s expectations of me. And honestly,
even if I wanted to be anorexic, I just don’t
have what it takes. After four hours of being
anorexic, I’d be like, ‘It’s been four whole
hours! Feed me!’ “
The comment she made about Anorexia can
certainly be perceived as a jab towards the
weight-obsessed It-girls in Hollywood.
However, it is a bit ignorant to suggest that
Anorexia is something you can just
consciously develop.
In any case, she seems to be sending a
generally healthy message towards girls -
that you don’t have to diet and be super-thin
in order to be beautiful and successful.
