Fiona Apple/ picture right
famous singer/songwriter, was raped
outside of her apartment at the age of
twelve...This is, I think, no matter your age, a
rather traumatic/distablizing event! As a
result, paranoia set in: she would check her
closets to make sure no one was hiding in
the house. Understandly, Fiona was
nervous around older men and had
terrible,violent dreams.She then developed
an eating disorder. Today, Fiona is
frustrated with the misunderstanding of her
eating disorder. She says, "I definitely had
an eating disorder. What was really
frustrating for me was that everyone thought
I was anorexic, and I wasn't. I was really
depressed and self-loathing. For me, it
wasn't about being thin, it was about getting
rid of the bait attached to my body. A lot of it
came from the self-loathing that came from
being raped at the point of developing my
voluptuousness. I just thought that if you
had a body and if you had anything on you
that would be grabbed, it would be grabbed.
So I did purposely get rid of it." As a result of
her eating disorder, Fiona became
extremely thin, but was written off by the
media as trying to "fit in." "It was colors.I
couldn't eat things that looked a certain
way,a certain color." The reason she was
like that was because she felt she had no
control over her life.

The Barbi Twins
Picture to the right
Known as THE BARBI TWINS, Shane
and Sia Barbi first shot to fame in the
mid 90's with two of Playboy's top
selling issues. The Barbi Twins also
started the multimillion-dollar calendar
business with four worldwide #1 selling
calendars. This made them household
names and generated TV & movie
scripts which were written for them,
exclusively. After becoming comic book
heroines, "The Hollywood Icons", as
the media called them,took a
sabbatical at the peak of their
careers. The choice of a quiet life
enabled them to recover from their
life-death struggle with bulimia.
Weeklong fasts to lose weight for
fashion shows and photo shoots were
followed by bouts of non-stop eating. "I
went feast and famine,feast and
famine.That was my wholelife.There
was no such thing as sitting down to a
normal meal," says Sia. The sisters
deny using cosmetic enhancements
and claim their bodies are the result of
a super-human exercise routine."I did
10 hours of exercise seven days a
week," says Sia."I was in so much pain
all the time." Eventually,the sisters
developed full-blown bulimia - Shane
would vomit,Sia took laxatives.At one
point,the two -5 feet 9 inches
tall-weighed just over 100 pounds
each.Rock bottom came when Sia
collapsed after taking more than 100
laxatives."It looked like she had a
cardiac arrest or she was paralyzed on
the right side,"says Shane.She got
immediate medical help and recovered
from her overdose,but her doctor
warned her that if she didn't stop, she
would die.Shane's husband
encouraged them to attend meetings
of Overeaters Anonymous,a 12-step
program. They have written a book
and are touring high schools and
colleges,telling young women not to
make the same mistakes they made.
Carre Otis/picture right
Model and actress Carré Otis starved
herself for nearly 17 years. The five-
foot-ten fashion model, once whittled
herself down to 100 pounds--and
nearly died in her quest for thinness.
Today, she is healthy and trying to
educate other women about the deadly
dangers of eating disorders.
- As a top fashion model, Carre Otis
made her living on looking thin and
beautiful. But now she is sharing the
ugly truth about the weight-loss
strategies she subjected herself to and
the dire health consequences that
“I had been on this insane diet for
almost 17 years to maintain the weight
that was demanded of me when I was
modeling,” Otis says. “My diet was
really starvation. I am not naturally that
thin so I had to go through everything
from using drugs to diet pills to
laxatives to fasting. Those were my
main ways of controlling my weight.”
COOPER: Well, earlier, I spoke with
Carrie Otis, the supermodel who nearly
starved herself to death using extreme
diets, exercise, eventually cocaine and
heroin, to try to stay thin. Now, after
gaining weight, she's living a much
healthier lifestyle. And along with
modeling, Carrie Otis is now a
spokesperson for the National Eating
I want to show you a picture of you in
1994, and you are so thin in it. What,
you know, and people see that, and
that's something that they want to be
like that. What were you actually doing
to yourself to look like that?
CARRIE OTIS, SUPERMODEL: I think
at that point in my life, I was probably
doing what most of the girls in the
industry in terms of dieting down do.
And it was really just not eating and
not having the information, not
understanding how a body works. And
also there was just so much pressure.
You know, if somebody said to you,
Well, you've got to lose weight, you've
got to be thinner than what you are,
nobody said, OK, this is how you do it.
So you're talking about really young
COOPER: So (UNINTELLIGIBLE)...
OTIS: ... you know, in this industry.
COOPER: So to get that figure and
maintain it, you would, I mean, on a
daily basis, you would eat what?
OTIS: On a daily basis, I'd probably
have salad, and then there was the
theory of, you know, well, drink your
calories. So you would have alcohol or
some wine. But it was, for the most
part, it was just eating very, very little
and not nutritiously, and it was kind of
a starvation diet.
COOPER: And did you feel pressure, I
mean, from agents, from editors, from
photographers to keep that going? I
mean, were they supportive of that?
OTIS: They're -- it's not like anyone
said, Well, just stop eating. Nobody
said that. But they also sort of left you
to your own devices about, whatever
you need to do to get to that weight,
that's what you are going to need to do.
COOPER: And yet, as unhealthy as
you were, and as, I mean, you were
starving yourself, you say, you were
even more successful. I mean, you got
the cover of "Sports Illustrated." What
did you do to get to look like that? I
understand you, I mean, worked out
severely. You went on a really crash
OTIS: And the workouts would have
been very different had I, you know,
also been taking care of myself in a,
you know, in regards to nutrition. But
still I was definitely working out. I mean,
you call it, I think, you know, it's a form
of anorexia, where it's just like,
consistent, nonstop workouts. You
don't feed or refuel your body enough.
So I was, I was working out excessively.
I wasn't eating enough. And at that
point, you know, my body, it really took
a toll on my body.
COOPER: You ended up having to
have heart surgery, because you, am I
right, you had holes in your heart?
OTIS: Yes, I did. I ended up having to
have heart surgery.
COOPER: And that's from, you think,
malnutrition from, from?
OTIS: Years of malnutrition. I mean,
this is, like, this is 17 years of
COOPER: As you look back on the you
of that time, I mean, what do you see?
OTIS: What's so interesting is, I
remember, you know, I'll look at a
magazine and pick up a picture, and I
remember thinking at that time, on that
day, that I felt a certain way, which was
not thin. You know, I felt fat. And I
COOPER: Even when you were
COOPER: ... even when you were on
the cover of "Sports Illustrated"?
OTIS: Yes, you don't see it. When
you're in that mentality, when you're in
that mindset, you don't really see the
reality before you. So for me, this point
in my life I look back with a tremendous
amount of compassion and a
tremendous amount of understanding
for what other women, other men go
through who are, you know -- it's a
very, you know, obsessed way to live.
There's no freedom.
When there are expectations placed
on an individual, and you are not
normally going to fit into a certain size
or, you know, you are going to do your
damndest to fit into what people want
until you have enough of yourself
established to not really -- at this point
in my life it's like, whatever. I come as I
am and I am really comfortable in my
life and I refuse to compromise my
integrity and my sanity and my sense
of well-being at this point.
COOPER: It seems like you're in a
good place. Carrie Otis, thank you
While ex-bandmate Geri Halliwell has
spoken at length about her battle with
bulimia,Mel has kept quiet about her own
suffering until now. Back in 2003, Mel C
spoke to the UK's "The Mirror" Newspaper.
Here's what she said during her interview,
"You know how people have a mid-life
crisis?Well,I had a mid-20s crisis.The
problem started years ago,mainly
because, throughout the time I was in the
Spice Girls,I had an eating disorder. It was
not as serious as anorexia but I didn't eat
"That messed with my health and triggered
a chemical imbalance which affected my
moods. When the Spice Girls got together I
was only 20 and although I thought I knew
it all, I was still a baby. To deal with what
happened to us however amazing it felt at
the time - was incredibly hard. We had
fantastic times and very difficult times.
People say they wouldn't change a thing
but there's quite a bit I'd change.
Especially the way I handled it."
"Everyone knows about Geri's eating
disorders," she says. "It's easy to be
influenced by another person's behaviour
when you spend lots of time with
them...And once you start losing weight, it's
very addictive." --"Throughout the heyday
of the Spice Girls, my diet became more
and more restrictive, until I was just eating
fruit and veg. I went on faddy diets and
didn't touch protein or carbohydrates,
which was ridiculous, as we were running
around like maniacs. I was underweight
and living on adrenalin. That screws your
body up and I believe it had a lot to do with
bringing on the depression."
When she visited her family, Melanie ate
healthily so as not to arouse their
suspicion. "My mum assumed my tiny body
was a result of being busy with the band
and working out regularly," she says. "She
didn't have a clue I was in the gym for
three hours every day. You become very
Explaining her anorexia in her teens years,
she revealed:"I had a brief flirtation with
anorexia and when I was recovering from
that, I put on a lot of weight, which was very
dif- ficult for me. In a way, I was trying to get
rid of my breasts. Everyone my age wanted
them, so it was like, wohoo! Then, I started
hating them. And for all my movies,I was
supposed to be younger,so I had to strap
them down." Picture of Ricci to the left.

Former Spice Girl,Geri Halliwell, has been in
and out of therapy in
her battle against bulimia and binge eating.
She has been suffering
from the eating disorder for several years,
until a three-day binge
made her seek help. In early 2002, she
checked into a US clinic to
help with her bulimia. About her bingeing,
she said, "I realised I
couldn't control this monster anymore.I
needed to find help.About
group therapy, she said: "Here, everyone
was equal. Fame and for-
tune counted for nothing." Despite having
she believes therapy has helped her: "It
happens (bingeing) less of-
ten now and it's easier to regain control."
Her piece of advice for those who are
struggling??? "I can honestly
tell you from personal experience, that
worrying about an eating dis-
order really can get you down. There's
nothing to be ashamed about.
You'll be amazed at the difference it'll make
to your whole life if you
tell someone you trust. There are lots of
people who want to help
and you really CAN'T fight this one on your
own. It might be a hard
decision to make, to tell people and to seek
help but, trust me it's no-

Veteran Hollywood actress Jane Fonda may still have a flawless appearance
but she has revealed that she has battled with bulimia for more than 30 years.
Fonda, who also has her own line of home exercise videos, admitted that she
struggled with binge-eating illness bulimia for three decades in a bid to become
the "perfect" woman. "I was bulimic for 35 years. I mistook the physical hunger
for spiritual hunger," she said. I knew intuitively that to be loved, I had to be
perfect. That leaves a dark hole in the centre of ourselves," she added. The

to confront their problems. photo below.

Today’s urban warriors are much the same. Ginseng, caffeine and Eastern medicine are still being utilized.
Now as it was then, you are no where without the basics namely sleep, smart eating and exercise. First aim for at the
minimum 6hours of sleep a night, for some a brief nap may lead to greater alertness and productivity.
Pack in energy-promoting foods. The definition of energy is calories so make them count. Veggies provide fiber,
vitamins and nutrients. Nutrition bars are a great source as well ...
Caffeine is America’s most popular drug some 85% of Americans drink coffee or some type of caffeinated product.
Americans usually are not the healthiest of the planets people there are better choices to make. South Central
America they use a product called Yerba Mate and Guarana. West Africa the caffeine choice is kola nut and leaf.
Caffeine works by stimulating the nervous system to speed up the heart rate, raise blood pressure and rev up the
metabolism (helping the body lose weight.) It also heightens alertness and concentration...
The facts about "Carb" depleting You cannot completely delete "carbs" from your life. You need them to keep energy
and focused. Their are many diets and products on the market today that can confuse anyone. Even someone who
I measure myself everyday to see where I am at. I weigh myself everyday. I read all the diet information I can get my
hands on and I check my body fat .
I concentrate on my thinspiration and keep motivated. I stand on my head for ten minutes a day and do 50 push ups
and 60 sit ups everyday without fail!!
This is something not proven but does seem to work for all who try it. I wear magnetic rings on different fingers for
different results. This is something that works for me. I wear to magnetic rings on both of my pinky fingers when I
sleep and I do have a magnetic mattress pad this is supposed to prevent all types of illness and eliminate swelling, not
to mention keep you looking younger.
I keep a food journal, this is a proven weight management tool everyone should try.
I exercise everyday.I have a part time job as a "floater" in a gym. A "floater" is someone who just comes in to teach
and leaves. It is great because I work out for free, and I have to because it is my job. I learned that if you gain muscle
you lose more weight because your body continues to burn more fat. I sleep at least 6 hours a night and drink plenty of
water. To keep my skin healthy at bedtime I massage pure almond oil into the areas I want firmer I also use some
moisturizing products to really enhance the skin, and I take one aloe vera capsule two times a day to avoid looking
older or you can drink it for quicker results... Aloe juice.
I take a Cayenne supplement to boost my metabolism.I take a multi-vitamin and I drink a pro-biotic to avoid any yeast.
Yeast can make you stop losing weight even in starvation mode.
When you don't eat very much your metabolism can slow down and you stop losing weight. Because heavy spices
bother my stomach I take a supplement. It is preferable to actually eat the spices. I use apple cider vinager on my
salads and in a tincture to help better my digestion and quicken my weight loss.
I suggest that everyone who wants to lose weight and look great, do some of the same. Try some of the diets on my
site and recipes. Follow the tips. Stay focused!!

HYDROX PRODUCTS AND WHY THEY WORK:
These super diet pills make weight come off fast. They create a thermogenasis effect in the body causing it to burn fat
faster by using the bodies heat. This also causes the body to remove excess water from the body. Most of these
products I have tried and lost weight but not as much as I had heard I could... so I investigated the situation and found
the right mixture of all of the extracts and have started my own product line.

Body cleansers work because they clean the body of the toxins it is holding. If the body is holding to many toxins it
does not lose weight rapidly or work efficiently. I am sure you have heard about all the new teas and cleansers. They
do work. You need to find one that works for your needs.
