Charity Fundraiser’s are the new hot singles spot.
Last night was a Black Tie Gala for the American Cancer Society a cause I of course strongly support.
Now, my sister is recently single…..So…. Here I am checking out the available stallions at this event… Not for me (wink, wink),
for my sister… lol.
But, I have to say this is a great place to meet men or women.
Let’s talk about a win-win situation. Great cause and great people and I figured… I am a journalist this looks like an article. So I
started talking to some of the guests. Some met their Prince Charming or Princess at fundraiser’s and ultimately got married.
Some of these couples told me they met at a Gala and every year they come to this Gala and it is part of their anniversary
celebration. I thought how nice they celebrate their love and give to their favorite charity. This is seriously win-win.
Galas offer the opportunity to put your best foot forward and dress to impress, which you couldn’t do at other typical dating
venues. Most men look so handsome in a tux and truthfully you really don’t see many man dressed up anymore. Also, a benefit
is a perfect place for a woman to shed their conservative work clothes and put on a spectacular outfit, and feel stunning for
Many professionals work exhausting hours. Many of my friends really don’t have time to socialize at all….So these events are
an instant social life. Some attend two to four charity events a week. How generous, and it is so much better than being a bar
hopper. Even if you don’t meet the person of your dreams, you can spend time with friends, family, eat, drink, and dance and
still support a great cause. The key thing is that if you are going to these events to meet someone, you should psyche yourself
up and tell yourself, I’ve done this from the goodness of my heart for this charity and made a great decision to be here.
Besides, you could always make friends with a couple of people who just might know Prince Charming or your Princess of your
dreams. Not to mention the great gift bags at these events. (You know I love the swag-bags READ MORE BELOW.)
For those who think to themselves now I am here what do I talk to these people about? This is the perfect place for people
who struggle with opening lines. The gala itself gives you the instant conversation starter. What is better to chit chat about
than the event that you paid to attend? It is the ideal and logical opportunity to approach someone and say,
“ Isn’t this a great cause? What is your connection to this organization” or share why you care about the cause. This
atmosphere is warm and there is an acceptance because you are there for the same cause.
Also, look for a charity you believe in—where you are more likely to meet people with the similar interests. If you lost your
mother to breast cancer and you attend a gala supporting research for a cure chances are you will meet people with similar
stories and can bond over that. If you don’t meet someone, at least you have done something nice for your mother’s memory.
And even if some people are going to these events just to meet people the organization still benefits. And that is a good thing.
Whatever way you are inspired to do good things, such as giving money and making the world a better place…Your heart is
still in the right place.
Well-heeled organizations like the NY Public Library have filled a niche by offering special memberships for people under 40,
which fosters more of a social component. The library’s Young Lions group sponsors benefits and cocktail parties and film
screenings for like-minded book lovers who can engage in creative discourse. Speaking with Carolyn Gan, manager of the
Young Lions, she said, “With Match.com, you have to sort through people to find those who want to lie in bed and read fiction.
There’s no sorting if you are a Young Lion. Everyone loves literature.”
Often these galas have what is called “tiered tickets” these tickets have different prices. Some of these parties have prices
set for the cocktail party or after-dinner gathering etc. So if you cannot afford the $500 or $1000-a-plate dinner, ask if there is
an option to join only the before or after festivities. In fact as a writer I can tell you from someone who does attend these
events, if you really want to meet someone, the cocktail hour is key for this. That is where everyone mingles and if you are
coming alone and you miss the cocktail hour you might be seated at a couples table.
Everyone I talked with at the gala about this article really felt that charity events are the best place to meet that someone
special or friends for life. But of course you can’t make everyone happy. Speaking with this man whose name he did not want
me to mention, told me that he is a regular to these events and is always looking for his soul mate did meet a woman at the
Cancer Society Gala he later found out she spent 9 months in an upstate prison for a white collar crime. There is always going
to be the random party crasher I guess. But, I think his story was unusual for this situation so I figured I would tell it. Okay so

Want your hair to make your face look thinner…When looking for the right face-slimming haircut, the first thing to consider is
the actual shape of your face. Round faces are roughly as wide as they are tall… and since you’re reading this, your face is
probably rounder than you would like.
But whether your face is round, square-ish, rectangular or heart-shaped, the goal typically remains the same: to make your
face appear oval-shaped -- length about one and a half times its width, with your jaw-line being slightly narrower than your
forehead. Erik von Spindler, a stylist at Lukaro Salon in Beverly Hills says the right cut can help trick the mind’s eye and make
your face appear more slender. Layering is key for achieving that effect, he says, and there are also specific hairstyles to
avoid. “No bobs and no short hair,” says von Spindler. “Think vertical stripes on slacks or a dress as opposed to horizontal

anything too wide, and have some fringing and soft lines around the face to conceal part of the cheek area and chin,” she

Lose water weight bathtub style….
The bathtub is the preferred tool for SWEATING IT OUT based on the outside humidity in total submersion, which is 100%. The
higher the humidity, the less the evaporation, and the more your body must sweat to cool core body temperature. This is why
athletes will sweat more in a steam room than in a dry sauna. Fill the bathtub with water that does not burn the hand but
causes moderate pain if the hand is moved underwater.
Set an alarm clock next to the bath for 10 minutes, and preferably have someone who will also alert you at the 10-minute mark.
Submerge your entire body and head in the bathtub, entering which should take at least 2 minutes. For ease of entry and to
minimize movement, sit cross-legged at the front of the bath and lay down slowly, putting your head underwater so that only
your face is exposed to the air and pointing towards the ceiling. If you feel faint at any point or when you reach 10 minutes, exit

the hunger pains will more than likely be stronger than they would otherwise.
The Fasting Day
During the fasting period, it is best to limit yourself to light physical tasks and to concentrate as much as possible on
introspection and spirituality. Use this fasting period constructively.
Meditate on scriptures, pray or read inspirational books - spend some time taking stock of where you are in life, and what are
some of the areas that you would like to improve.
These can be spiritual, mental, physical, social and even financial. It is often helpful to write a list of issues you would like to
resolve and then use the time of fasting praying and meditating to receive inspiration and guidance.
*If you are unable to take this "time out" because of an active work or family schedule, then go about your business but
maintain an "internal" attitude of prayer, meditation and contemplation.
The way I accomplish this is by not allowing time to consume my thoughts but, rather, I make it a point to go from moment to
moment - focusing only on what I am doing one second, one minute at a time. You will be surprise just how often we go about
our day-to-day activities thinking only of the future or obsessing over the past. This negates the present moment and can
keep us in a state of confusion, stress and restlessness.
Breaking the Fast
Benefits of fasting can be truly enjoyed only if you break the fast in the right manner. Do not do like I did at first and break a
period of fasting with a full-course meal. You can get stomach cramps and, in some cases, become seriously ill. On the
morning or evening following the fast, break it by either drinking water with lime or grape juice diluted with water.
Drinking lemon juice with a pinch of salt helps flush out toxins from your digestive system. Wait approximately four hours and
then have some soup or light salad with lime.
Please - NO heavy dressings at this point! Four hours after that you can have a light meal of poultry, salad and maybe steamed
vegetables or brown rice.
The next day you can resume your regular eating habits. Of course, the period of fasting hopefully will give you time to
meditate on how you have been eating. It is important to realize that fasting only to return to destructive eating will limit the
benefitsAfter you break the fast, make a resolution that you will start to move away from destructive eating.
This is not done in a day, and you may stumble much - but no matter what, keep going and never give up! Periodic fasting such
as the one described here is definitely one of the elements of a balanced and sustainable weight loss program.
