CELEBRITY GOSSIP AND TRENDS IN WEIGHT LOSS...
Ever wonder why there are so many diets out there?
With new diets popping up all the time, the words yo-yo
dieting says it all. If the South Beach Diet doesn’t work,
there is always the Beverly Hills Diet, or the Cabbage
Soup Diet…or…the list seems endless!

It is not the diet that controls the weight loss, it is the
person behind the diet. If you have not yet come to
understand what, if any importance food weighs in your
life, and you are bouncing from one diet plan to the next
diet pill, to the next gym membership. It  isn’t the diet
failing you, it is you failing the diet.

Even the more mainstream diet programs advertised
heavily on television will tell you while one
spokesperson is gushing about losing 14 pounds in one
week… that these results are not typical.

Don’t follow a diet plan- count your calories. You can buy
a calorie chart at any bookstore and keep track for
yourself about how many calories you are taking in daily.

For example, did you know that one Big Mac has 550
calories? Are you sure you want to super-size that meal?

One serving of lean ground beef (which would be one
patty) is only 55 calories. Add 1 slice of cheese-70
calories. Two slices of bread- bread is approx. 60
calories per slice- add low-fat mayo and condiments and
you are still ahead calorie-wise. Not to mention, you
detour around ordering that large order of fries that
super-sized would be over 200 calories. (Ever taken one
French fry and floated it overnight in a glass of cold
water)? Might want to try it some time, just to see what
happens. It isn’t pretty.

Fast-foods restaurants may be fast and easy, but they
serve up high calorie food that isn’t very nutritious in
the long run.

Weight Loss Tips
In order to lose weight, you want to eat sensible meals,
cut down on calories, try and eliminate fats from your
diet and exercise regularly. Look to foods with
unsaturated fats instead of saturated. Saturated fats
raise your blood pressure and put you into a higher risk
for heart disease. You want to steer clear of whole- milk
products, buy leaner cuts of meat and avoid frying foods
whenever possible. When using oil, look to canola oil
and soy oils. Take your salad dressing on the side, and
when you find you are craving something sweet, try
eating two graham crackers.

Water is your best friend. Re-discover water if you are
trying to lose weight. Water is an essential part of life.
With the current flood of soft drinks, power drinks,
sugared and non-sugared teas, specialty coffees and
other beverages, water sometimes takes a back seat.
Everyone needs water, it helps to lubricate our joints,
there are minerals in water our body needs and our
metabolism needs water in order to help us break down
the protein in our body and supply energy.

A person needs to drink at least 2 litres of water daily!
Did you know that?  Did you know that your body can
survive without food better than it can without water?
Are you feeling tired and drugged-out all the time?
When was the last time you were at that tap…and not for
beer, but for water? If you don’t have enough water
moving food through your body, your body will signal to
you that you are hungry. These signals are known as
false hunger pains.

Stay away from alcohol, because alcohol dehydrates you.
Want proof? Remember your last hangover? After you
came down from the sluggish, headachy feeling, weren’t
you craving a big glass of water?

Don’t skip meals! People mistakenly believe that if they
skip meals they will lose weight. Skipping meals will just
make your hungrier in the long-run, for after a few
skipped meals, your body will be sending signals to your
brain…”Hey, I am hungry!’  That’s when you usually go hit
the fast food restaurants.

Stay active

Discipline yourself to be physically active. Don’t overdo
at once and check with your doctor, but create a
program that you can work with. Set realistic goals and
look around your environment for ways that will increase
your physical activity without interrupting your day. Take
advantage of any stairs you might have at home or in the
office. Don’t take the elevator or escalator, take the
stairs. Wear comfortable shoes to work, and once you
have arrived, then you can put on your heels or work
shoes.

Volunteer in the community

Beach clean-up days, races for charity- walk for the
cure.  Habitat for Humanity- join a local program and reap
the benefits of the physical exercise it brings. As
mentioned several times in this website, adopt a dog, or
volunteer around horses. Nothing builds up muscle
more than lifting 75 pound hay bales, mucking stalls and
grooming horses.

Watch out for those exercise machine traps. They look
so easy to use and affordable, but over 60% of the
people who buy the Stairmaster or other exercise
equipment for their home, after about two months they
stop using them. They end up right beside that
expensive gym membership you never use but still have
to pay for.

Gather support

Talk to your family members and loved ones. Involve
them in your new healthy lifestyle. Plan family outings
where there is a great amount of walking. Plan vacations
with activities in mind that will involve the entire family.

The commitment to lose weight is within yourself.
Strengthen your resolve and keep your goals small and
attainable.
